The final week of the regular season is officially wrapped up, and several Houston County teams are headed for the postseason after the final Post Season Rankings came out.
The final week of the regular season is officially wrapped up, and several Houston County teams are headed for the postseason after the final Post Season Rankings came out.
Let’s see who’s still standing:
Houston County
Houston County is the highest ranked team at the end of the regular season at 8th, which gives them the opportunity to host both series before a potential trip to Columbus.
Last week the Lady Bears picked up a couple of solid wins against Jones County (13-4, 12th in 5A) and Mary Persons (10-2, 16th in 4A), and their one loss to West Laurens (10-6) wasn’t much of a blemish because of the Lady Raiders’ second-place ranking in 4A.
East Paulding (16-10, 11-3 Region 5-6A) will visit Warner Robins in the first round. The doubleheader is scheduled for Oct. 14 at 5 p.m., and an “if” game will be played on Oct. 15 at 5 p.m.
Perry
Perry enters their first postseason under new head coach Reagan Stella ranked 11th in the Post Season Rankings, which means they’ll host their first round series.
In order to host the second round, Union Grove (27th) would have to upset North Oconee (6th) and advance. Otherwise, should the Lady Panthers win, they will travel.
Their ranking is about where it’s been the last couple of weeks after a win against Lowndes (10-9, 26th in 7A) and a loss to Harris County (4-1, 1st in 5A).
This week the Lady Panthers host Jonesboro (18-9, 8-5 Region 4-5A), ranked 22nd, on Oct. 14 for the doubleheader. The “if” game will be played on Oct. 15 if necessary.
Veterans
Outside of a short fall a couple of weeks ago, Veterans didn’t move much in the final week and earned the 11th spot in 6A.
The Lady Warhawks lost to Lee County (7-4, 7-1, 2nd in 6A) in a makeup doubleheader but beat ACE (10-2, 24th in 2A) and Schley County (8-0, 4th in 1A) to round out the regular season.
That sets Veterans up with a series against Newnan (16-10, 12-2 Region 3-6A), the 22nd ranked team. The doubleheader will be played on Oct. 14, and an “if” game will take place on Oct. 15 if necessary.
Westfield
Westfield enters the postseason as the number one team in GIAA 3A after last week’s victory over Tiftarea Academy (10-3) in the regular season finale.
The Lady Hornets are on the hunt for their 10th consecutive state championship, which will start at the South Commons Complex in Columbus on Oct. 15.
As of the morning of Oct. 12, Westfield is set to take on Central Fellowship Christian Academy (1-18) on Oct. 15.
