RAFB hosts STEM summit

Calling all future engineers. Robins Air Force Base needs you.

Teachers and administrators met this past Friday at the Museum of Aviation on just that: how to get students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and math, or STEM.

Jamie Cook, who is responsible for base engineering workforce development said, “We have an insatiable engineering need here at Robins Air Force Base.”

There are a lot of great engineering programs here in Georgia colleges, Cook said, but they aren’t producing enough engineers. He also said it’s difficult to recruit outside of Georgia because typically they stay five to 10 years and then want to move back home. Educators from Houston, Bibb, Laurens and Dodge counties had a full day of discussions.
