Perry crash injures one

PERRY, Ga. — Portions of Sam Nunn Boulevard were blocked Wednesday afternoon following a crash between an SUV and semitrailer. Perry Police and Fire, as well as Houston Healthcare EMS, arrived on scene shortly after the crash that occurred around 3:25 p.m.

The Journal spoke with Interim Police Chief Alan Everidge for more details.

“When we arrived at the intersection of Saint Patrick’s and Sam Nunn, we found two vehicles: a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder, operated by Phyllis Brand of Butler; and a 2016 Peterbilt semitruck, operated by Thomas Byers of Alamo,” Everidge said. “The driver of the semitruck was headed west on San Nunn when the driver of the Pathfinder pulled out of the parking lot there and struck the passenger side of the truck, hitting his wheel on the back of the truck.”

Everidge said that upon arriving on scene, officers ensured the scene was secured, and provided aid to the victims. After the scene was deemed safe, and debris was removed from the flow of traffic, the road was opened to travelers once again.

Brand was taken to Perry Hospital via EMS for minor injuries. Her passenger was uninjured. Mike Wells Towing moved the Pathfinder from the scene.

According to Everidge, the cause of this crash has been identified as a Failure to Yield to the Right of Way on part of the Pathfinder.

The roadway was reopened at approximately 4 p.m.
