Peach Commissioners approve 180 ft telecommunications tower, discuss TSPLOST
The Peach County Board of Commissioners has approved a conditional use request for a proposed 180-foot telecommunications facility proposed to be located near 10660 Miami Valley Road.
FORT VALLEY — The Peach County Board of Commissioners has approved a conditional use request for a proposed 180-foot telecommunications facility proposed to be located near 10660 Miami Valley Road, during their September board meeting.
The proposed tower facility will enable Verizon Wireless to provide voice and broadband data coverage to the surrounding area of Peach County. The facility is projected to greatly improve wireless service coverage along Miami Valley Road, Buckeye Road, Allendale Road, Borders Road, Bleckley Road, Brock Road, Fullwood Road, McDonald Drive, Joiner Road, Silvers Road and other small streets within the desired service area.
The request comes from Tarpon Towers III, LLC who wish to construct the new tower to
support Verizon Wireless’ coverage objectives. The 5.9 acre property is zoned R-AG, Agricultural Residential District and is currently vacant.
According to documents provided by the Peach County Board of Commissioners, the facility – once completed – will be unmanned and will not “emit noise or glare.”
The facility will not ‘constitute a safety or health hazard, a nuisance, or have a noxious effect on the surrounding area either due to appearance and/or operations,” per the documentation.
Following that the commissioners moved on to discussion about the T-SPLOST and their upcoming town halls to discuss what the TSPLOST entails and how the commissioners plan to use the funds, if it gets approved by the voters. The town hall meetings are planned for Thursday, Sept. 10, and Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6:00 p.m. at the Board of Commissioners office in Fort Valley.
After residents rejected the T-SPLOST renewal by a margin of 54% to 46%, the Board of Commissioners took steps to reintroduce it back onto the ballot this November.
The T-SPLOST is a major funding source of multiple road improvement projects across the county and its municipalities.
Peach County’s proposed project list is extensive, covering major projects including a $4.6 million congestion realignment project along the Highway 247 Connector, a $1.9 million repair on Smyrna Church Road, and $1.5 million improvements for Boy Scout Road.
