Groundbreaking held for Murphy USA station

A groundbreaking was held Monday for the new Murphy USA station in Perry.

Don Williams, division director for Murphy USA, said on behalf of the company that they were “very excited to be joining the community. Hopefully we can help you get the gas prices down with our competitive nature,” he said. “So I don’t know how the other guys feel about us but we’re going to try and get those prices down and bring more jobs into the area.”

Perry Mayor Jimmy Faircloth said “we” continue to hear of parts of the country where businesses are closing, “and that’s not good news,” he said. “However,” he added, “there are certain parts of the country and the state that are growing locally and we continue to enjoy that benefit simply because there are people like you and your company who’ve made the conscious decision to expand in our area.

“That is not taken likely and we do appreciate that decision.”

Faircloth also added he was in favor of competition, especially, he said, competition that means citizens can buy with less cost and close to home.

“I think you will find in this community,” he said. “We have people who are willing to cooperate and hopefully you will find a workforce in our area and that’s always important to us.

“Every time we have a business open it means something is going right in that community. I always say: ‘the purpose of government is to help people achieve their dreams and then get out of the way.’ If we don’t get out of your way fast enough, let me know.”

Murphy USA, it was noted, has 1,200 locations in 23 states – mostly in the Southern and Midwestern part of the U.S. It services 1.6 million customers per day.
