Friday Night Football Roundup — Week 6
It was a breezy Week 6 for most Houston County teams, although a county rivalry did brighten an otherwise mundane week on the gridiron.
It was a breezy Week 6 for most Houston County teams, although a county rivalry did brighten an otherwise mundane week on the gridiron.
Houston County
Houston County was off this week. They start region play next week against Tift County on Oct. 2.
Northside
Northside (2-3, 0-1 Region 2-6A) led almost the entire game, but a late explosive run and interception put the Eagles away, 24-21, against Veterans.
Up 21-3 in the fourth quarter, penalties and a tough Warhawks defensive front stalled Northside’s offense. Veterans scored 21 unanswered to win the game.
Next for the Eagles is another bye week, then they take on Tift County on the road on Oct. 9.
Perry
Perry (2-4, 1-1 Region 2-5A) picked up their first region win on Friday with a 57-14 thumping of Locust Grove.
The Panthers returned to their all-or-nothing approach with their largest margin of victory this season. The previous was 41 in a 48-7 win against Howard.
After a bye week, Perry will host Jones County on Oct. 9.
Veterans
Veterans (4-1, 1-0 Region 2-6A) is tied for their fourth-longest winning streak in program history after Friday’s comeback victory against Northside, 24-21.
The Warhawks scored 21 unanswered points and pulled off a couple of big plays late to seal the deal.
Davareon Lightning, who has burst on to the scene as of late, ran the 35-yard touchdown in to take the lead with three minutes to play. Quincy Eichelberger dove to secure Northside’s tipped pass for the game-sealing interception with a little over a minute left.
Now, Veterans will head back on the road to face Thomas County Central on Oct. 2.
Warner Robins
Warner Robins (4-2, 2-0 Region 2-5A) has taken care of business in their first two region games, and they secured their first shutout of the season against Eagle’s Landing, 55-0.
That puts the Demons in a two-way tie for first place with Jones County, who beat Ola 17-14 in overtime this week.
Before taking back-to-back bye weeks, Warner Robins will host Locust Grove on Oct. 2.
Westfield
Westfield just finished up the last of their back-to-back bye weeks, and they’ll get back in action against Tiftarea Academy on Oct. 2 in their district opener.
