Fall Line Armory strives to become your hometown gun shop

KATHLEEN — “Middle Georgia’s hometown gun shop.” That’s what owner of Fall Line Armory Brandon Doles said he hopes his gun store can become to the City of Perry and surrounding areas.

“I just feel like we can bring that hometown feel. When people come in they can sit down, have a coffee, watch football and talk,” Doles said. “I want people to feel like they’re at home when they come in.”

Doles is originally from Fort Valley and grew up in Perry. Him and his brother recently purchased The Oil Lamp, but Doles always wanted to own a gun shop.

Fall Line Armory started in a small office, building hunting rifles and minor gunsmithing, but wanted a bigger space. He said they shopped around and found a space on Houston Lake Road in Perry.

Doles has always been an avid gun nut and hunter for as long as he can remember.

“I’ve been all over the southeast hunting and duck hunted pretty much everywhere that you can duck hunt,” he said. “I use my custom built 300 PRC rifle. As far as rifles go, that’s my favorite.”

The armory has been open a few weeks now and provides just about everything from your local gun shop. This includes: buying, selling, trading, gunsmithing, laser engraving, powder and center coating, and consignment.

Doles said they get their guns from 12 to 15 suppliers and also from the public.

“We carry a little bit of everything that could be carried [such as] long guns, pistols and short barrel rifles (SBRs),” he said.

Doles said Glocks have been one of their best sellers so far and are one of the most popular guns in the United States. He said customers have been transitioning towards sub-compact and more carry weapons.

“The ARs, SIG Sauer pistols and glocks are most popular for sure,” he said.

Since their grand opening on October 10, conveniently just before gun season, Doles said Fall Line Armory has been getting busier and busier. Doles has been trying to promote his business by posting regularly on Facebook with informational videos about firearms.

“We’re trying to do a series every week, whether that be hunting, ammunition, types of weapons, scopes or really anything,” he said. “We also post any kind of new stock or new trades we have taken in.”

Fall Line Armory has few regulars already and Doles hopes his vision for the gun store reaches more people.

One may think most of their customer base are avid hunters. With deer season in full swing, Doles said to find a gun that you’re comfortable with and to make sure you check your optics, scope rings making sure nothing is loose as well as your ammunition making sure it is dry.

“If there’s any questions [about firearms], we can always help,” he said.

The feedback from the public has been good according to Doles. He said people are really excited to have a centrally located gun shop and have raved about the friendliness of Doles’ staff.

He is prepared for pushback, if any, given the political climate surrounding firearms. He said as long as they follow the rules, they’ll be just fine.

“We’re not selling to criminals, we’re selling to people that are legally allowed to own firearms,” he said. “We follow the ATF’s, local and state government’s rules, and that’s all we can do. We’re just like everyone else that sells them.”

Fall Line Armory is located at 2380 Houston Lake Road, STE 300 in Kathleen. The armory is open on Tuesday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are closed Sundays and Mondays.
