Former Greenville Police Officer Rory Haynes entered a guilty plea in Meriwether County Superior Court on Tuesday, May 19 on charges of unlawful acts regarding criminal history information and violation of oath by a public officer.
Haynes was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) on June 9, 2022.
The GBI reported in a press release that year, the Greenville Police Department had asked the agency to investigate allegations that Haynes misused the agency’s Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) terminal for personal use.
The GBI reported, Haynes was hired as a Greenville officer in August 2019. Over the course of his time as an officer, Haynes queried the names of individuals, including an ex-wife and ex-girlfriends, on his mobile in-car GCIC computer approximately 45 times without a legitimate law enforcement purpose and in violation of departmental policy and Georgia law.
Haynes was sentenced to five years, serve one year commuted to time served and fined $1,477 on the charge of violation of oath by a public officer. He was also sentenced to 10 years and to serve one year commuted to time served to run concurrent with the first charge on the charge of computer invasion of privacy. Under the probation conditions in the case, Haynes is to serve 60 to 120 days in a probation detention center and the remainder on patrole.
