Road Work Completion Deadline End of April

Not even a comedian’s joke could be so funny.
The latest report posted by the Georgia Department of Transportation continues indicating the project to widen US Hwy. 27 from the Cataula community to Columbus will be completed in two weeks.
According to that report, the project has a scheduled completion date of April 30, 2026, yet the same report shows the project at just 55.74 percent complete as of last Friday. Though it is extremely unlikely the project will be completed by the end of April, progress has been made – a whopping seven percent since a report offered the end of December 2025.

The project includes widening the existing two and three-lane roadway to a four-lane roadway, from East Bon Acre Road in the Cataula community on the north end to Turnberry Lane in Columbus on the south end.
The overall project also includes a roundabout and redesign of the Hwy. 27 and State Route 315 intersection, along with repaving the remaining two-lane portion of Hwy. 27 from East Bon Acre to the roundabout. Construction work has been underway on both of those parts of the total project.
