Fire causes heavy damage

The Perry Fire Department responded to an early morning structure fire Saturday at 1329 Jackson Lane. Battalion Chief Charles Mundy said the call came in at 2:23 a.m.

Mundy said there were 10 firefighters on scene, along with one safety officer, and Fire Chief Lee Parker. All six occupants of the residence made it outside safely with no injuries.

“It took approximately 25 minutes to put the fire out,” Mundy said. “We then spent a couple of hours making sure it had not spread. After investigating, it appears that a vehicle in the driveway caught fire first, and then in turn caught the garage on fire. The house suffered heavy damage.”

Mundy also said the American Red Cross was notified on behalf of the occupants.
