Fans meet Nancy Grace at Books-A-Million

Fans stood in line for hours Saturday at Books-A-Million in Warner Robins to meet Nancy Grace and have their picture taken with her, as well as get her autograph after purchasing her newly released book, “Murder in the Courthouse: A Hailey Dean Mystery.”

Grace’s mother, Elizabeth; her husband, David Linch; and nine-year-old twins, John David and Lucy, also tagged along with her to the book signing. She introduced her family to many of her fans.

From 2 to about 6 p.m., the line remained long in the back of the book store as fans gathered inside the store, anxiously waiting for their turn. Grace took her time with each person, learning more about who they are and even offered her chair to those who needed to sit after standing for so long.

Many fans felt as if they were her family.

“She made me feel like family,” said DeEtte Phillips of Twiggs County.

She said Grace was down-to-earth and very friendly.

“I just love her,” she said.

Phillips said she heard about Grace being in Warner Robins from watching the local news on television that Saturday morning. She said meeting Grace was “so exciting.”

Another fan, Farrah Johnson of Warner Robins, who stood in line for about 30 minutes, said she was star struck.

“It felt great meeting her in person,” she said.

Johnson said Grace encouraged her to never give up on her dreams of going into the information technology field, because it’s a lot harder for women.

Dennise Huntzinger of Warner Robins, who saw an article posted on Facebook about the book signing, said meeting Grace was too good to be true.

“She’s so awesome and has overcome so much,” she said. “She’s a big inspiration.”

Huntzinger appreciated that Grace took her time with each fan.

“She actually cares about what you do and where you’re from,” she said.

Selena Lane of Hinesville, who was visiting family in Warner Robins, said she was unaware that Grace was having a book signing Saturday. A fan of Grace’s, she said she was at the right place at the right time.

“I’ve loved her for years,” she said, adding that meeting Grace in person was amazing.

Lane even got Grace to say, while recording her, “Selena, are you serious?”

Myrtle Altman of Warner Robins, who came to the book signing with her husband, Tom, summed up the entire experience: “It was extraordinary.”

Proceeds from Grace’s new book will go toward the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
