Goodbyes are always bittersweet
Staff Writer Sandra Hernandez writes about her time at the Houston Home Journal and what she has learned over the years.
I never thought I would stop saying “Hi, this is Sandra Hernandez with the Houston Home Journal” but the time has come for a new way to greet myself.
The past three years have been eventful working at the Houston Home Journal. I’ve covered many meetings, press releases, fun events and took about, give or take, a million photos around Houston County.
I remember being nervous my first day on the job. I did not think I was ready to be a reporter at a newspaper while still being a college student. However, I am glad I did not let fear stop me from having the most fun first “big girl” job.
The HHJ taught me a lot, encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and talk to people from all walks of life. It taught me to never be afraid of asking tough questions or from covering a controversial story.
Now, it is time to turn the page to a new chapter. My last weeks at the HHJ have been bittersweet. I will miss working in Perry, I will miss my coworkers who are now my lifelong friends and I will miss Houston County. But I am not going too far away, just the next county over. You will probably recognize my name on another website, but I will keep that a mystery for now. The only hint I will give is I will still be doing what I love: keeping you informed.
I would like to thank readers for giving a college student the chance to be a part of their stories, I will always remember them.
This isn’t a goodbye, but a see you around Houston County.
Before you go...
