WR Police Dept. awarded grant
The Warner Robins Police Department was awarded a grant of $16,155.18 that will cover half the cost of purchasing 45 new bulletproof vests. The officers recycle the vests every five years, it was noted at Tuesday’s council meeting.
Also, with another grant that is being shared, the police will use $16,470 of it to purchase new equipment.
Mayor Randy Toms added, “I’m excited to announce we have accomplished something this past week with having no openings in the Warner Robins Police Department.” The mayor also stated that this was the first time in years that there have been no job openings for the department.
In other buisness, the council approved the first reading of the millage rate, though there is no change. It will stay the same as it was last year, 9.99 mills, and the due date will be Dec. 20. The millage rate revenues will help fund the city’s general fund operating the city government.
The council repealed an amendment to the general fund for $35,000 for streetlight projects. A former employee was misinformed at the previous council meeting, it was said, in regard to the funds. Councilman Keith Lauristen stated there was no need in using the fund balance; the money was already there and designated for the streetlight projects.
