Houston County’s 2019 New Year’s baby
Adyah Gordon and Aleck Barnes welcomed their new baby boy, A’Sayah Jakobe Barnes, to the world on Tuesday, Jan. 1, at 7:20 p.m. A’Sayah was the first baby of the year born in Houston County, at Houston Medical Center.
“We are so happy that he is here,” Gordon said. “This is my second child, but Aleck’s first. When we found out we were pregnant, we were nervous at first, but now seeing him, it’s a joy.”
Gordon said her original due date was around Dec. 31. Barnes said, “It’s cool” that his son was born on New Year’s day. The couple explained that when choosing their baby’s name, they looked at different African names.
“His first name sounds similar to his mother’s,” Barnes said. “And his middle name is the same as mine.”
A’Sayah weighed 6 pounds and 15.3 ounces and measured 20 inches long. Gordon and Barnes both said he is a calm baby who barely cries.
“He is so peaceful,” Gordon stated. “We wish nothing but the best for him as he grows up. We want him to be successful and not be afraid to take any risks.”
Gordon recently graduated nursing school and passed her board exam. She said she will start work after her recovery from having the baby. Barnes currently works at Holiday Inn, but plans to start pilot school this summer.
