Driver crashes into building

Perry Fire and Police ended up working double trouble Friday morning. First was to respond to a car lodged partially inside the building owned by Home Place Realty (1201 Ball St). That was a 2007 Chevy HHR driven by Ramierez Rumph out of Perry.

Capt. Heath Dykes said Rumph, travelling east to west on Northside Dr. and headed toward Ball St. – in particular the T-intersection – didn’t stop at the stop sign. Corp. Jeff Keenom added he was travelling too fast to start with and, “It doesn’t look like he even tried to use his brakes. He overshot the stop sign, hit the incline and went airborne into the building.”

Dykes said Rumph had open warrants, was taken into custody and charged with travelling too fast for conditions.

The second part of the trouble came while they were working the scene. An approximated 95-year-old man drove through and clipped the parked Tahoe of Fire Chief Joel Gray.

Nobody was injured in either incident, Dykes said.
