Don’t miss the deadline: How to get your events and news in the paper

One of the things we enjoy most about making the newspaper each week is sharing the events, milestones, and stories that make our community unique.

One of the things we enjoy most about making the newspaper each week is sharing the events, milestones, and stories that make our community unique. Many of the items you see in the paper come straight from readers like you.

If you’ve ever wondered how to get your news story or event announcement in the paper, or why something might not have appeared, it usually comes down to one simple thing: deadlines.

We publish the newspaper twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. To give us enough time to review submissions, design pages, and get the paper ready for print, we follow a set schedule for when items need to arrive.

Receive stories from Centerville, Perry and Warner Robins straight to your inbox. Delivered weekly.

To be included in the Wednesday edition, please send your submission by noon on Monday. For the Saturday edition, the deadline is noon on Thursday.

If you send something after the deadline, it isn’t lost. We’ll move it to the next available edition. However, it may get lower priority than newer submissions, especially if space is tight.

People often ask how early they should send in event details. For the best chance to be seen on our community calendar, we suggest sending your event information about a month ahead. This way, your event can appear in the paper more than once, giving readers time to plan, and it helps us feature other upcoming events, too.

It’s easy to submit an item. You can send events and news stories through our website or directly to my email: brieanna@hhjonline.com. For calendar listings, please include the event name, date, location, and a short description so readers know what to expect.

If you’re sending a news item, we also welcome photos and prefer to include them when possible. Photos help bring community stories to life. When you send images, please make sure they are high resolution so they print clearly, and include the names of the people in the photo in the caption if you can.

We always aim to highlight as many community events and achievements as we can. Local newspapers are at their best when they reflect the people who live here, and reader submissions are a big part of that.

So if your church, club, school, or organization has something coming up, please send it our way. Just remember to keep the deadlines in mind.

We look forward to sharing your stories.
