COUNTRY Financial donates $1,500 to Warner Robins Police Department
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — According to a press release provided by COUNTRY Financial, the insurance company helped the Warner Robins Police Department support their community this holiday season by providing the law enforcement agency with a donation of $1,500.
According to interim Warner Robins Police Chief Wayne Fisher, the donation went in part to helping fund their community outreach program, Shop with a Cop. The remaining $750 went to helping fund necessary items for the police department’s K-9 unit.
Fisher spoke with The Journal and provided a few more details.
“[The donation] helped increase our abilities to increase the amount of funding and the amount of children who would be benefitted by the program we have in place,” Fisher said.
This year, WRPD was able to help provide Christmas gifts for 26 local children and their families. Each child received a $200 gift card to Walmart to spend however they pleased, and did so alongside a Warner Robins police officer.
This year marked WRPD’s 18th year of hosting Shop with a Cop.
Within the police department’s K-9 unit, the funds will be used to purchase items needed by their dogs.
“It will be used in regards to buying equipment and needed items that were requested by the K-9 unit from the budgetary process that may have been not approved,” Fisher said. “It could be things such as collars, leads, leashes or items used as awards to the dogs.”
Fisher told The Journal that WRPD has received donations like this one from community groups throughout the years and are used to assist the department in whatever their efforts happen to involve at the time.
“[The donations] assist the organization in being able to facilitate certain outreach goals that we’ve established throughout the years that may be items or needs that either come up after a budget process has been put into effect, or were not received at the given time,” Fisher said.
Finally, Fisher thanked COUNTRY Financial and the community for their charitable efforts.
“We greatly appreciate the support from them and the community as a whole in their support of the Warner Robins Police Department in our efforts to be interconnected with our community, to serve the community, at many facets and levels than what is traditionally viewed as law enforcement,” Fisher said.
According to the release provided by COUNTRY Financial, the insurance and financial services company has donated more than $4 million since 2020, “to organizations and programs that support teachers, first responders, active-duty service members and veterans, supporting the company’s vision to ‘enrich lives in the communities we serve.’”
COUNTRY Financial Owner Shawn Buchanan thanked WRPD for their work in Houston County.
“This is one of my favorite things to do is give back to my community,” Buchanan said. “I want to thank the police department for their dedication and taking care of our community.”
