Ben Hulbert of Perry will complete his first year as Market President for the two-county area of State Bank in December. Since December of 2015 the four branches spread out in Houston and Dooly Counties generated growth through loan and deposit products, strong attention to customer service, and a commitment of service to the communities.

Hulbert was born and raised in Perry being the middle child of seven siblings. He attended both Perry High School and The Westfield School, and graduated from Westfield. Hulbert furthered his education with a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University in accounting and finance, and a master’s degree of accountancy from Georgia College. Hulbert is married to his wife Samantha and has four children Matty ten, Ben nine, James three, and Luke one.

“I started out working for an accounting firm in Macon for a few years, and then was presented an opportunity to get into banking in 2005,” said Hulbert. “Here I am 11 years later and I am thoroughly enjoying it.”

Hulbert said he always enjoyed math in school and at the time never really thought about getting into a career of banking, however he said it was kind of instilled in him from his grandmother Hulbert.

“My grandmother Hulbert taught me how to save and invest my money growing up,” said Hulbert. “You know when you’re a teenager cutting grass to make some money you want to spend it right away (he said laughing), but when she taught me those two tools that’s when my love of math came along and what she taught me is still with me today.”

Hulbert’s first banking job was at Security Bank branch on Georgia Highway 96.

“I started out as a credit analyst, and overtime inherited a portfolio of loans, and relationships with my customer base,” said Hulbert. “Security Bank then transitioned into State Bank in 2009.”

When the transition was made from Security Bank to State Bank, Hulbert was promoted through the years as an assistant banking officer to banking officer, assistant vice president to vice president and now his current title market president of Houston and Dooly Counties.

“It’s been a learning experience, but it has been a ton of fun as well,” said Hulbert. “I now oversee both counties by keeping up with day-to-day operations, oversee all employees, and help promote and grow the business. While I’m learning, people with great knowledge and professionalism surround me. Our employees here at State Bank average at least 19 years of banking experience. When you visit us you have the best of the best people here to help.”

“The banking industry is always changing,” said Hulbert. “But when you have people with that amount of experience you never have to worry when the waters get rough because our staff is who you can trust, and I am proud of that.”

Hulbert is also involved in the community outside of banking. He is a member of the Perry Rotary Club and serves on the board of directors for the Perry Housing Authority, the Houston County Development Authority, and The Westfield School.

“The community strongly supports State Bank and I in turn strongly support this community,” said Hulbert. “We have many of our staff who are also involved in several local organizations. It’s just great to be a part of such a strong support system. We are here for this community absolutely.”
