Three volunteer firefighters, Paul Price, Hunter Price and Tim Ryan, departed Tuesday with Engine 1 and Tanker 6 to support ongoing firefighting efforts along Highway 82 between Waycross, Georgia and Brunswick, Georgia.
The wildfire has now burned more than 22,000 acres and destroyed more than 100 homes, with additional structures at risk. A statewide call for assistance remains in effect as crews work to contain the fast-moving blaze and protect affected communities.
“These firefighters represent the very best of our community,” the department said in a statement. “As volunteers, they are stepping away from their full-time jobs and families to answer the call and stand on the front lines for others in need. We ask everyone to keep them in their thoughts and prayers as they work to contain this devastating fire.”
The firefighters are volunteers who serve the Cataula community while maintaining full-time careers.
The deployment is part of a coordinated statewide response, with fire departments from across Georgia assisting in suppression efforts. The duration of the deployment remains undetermined as conditions continue to evolve.
