A big night for big blowouts as many of Houston County’s teams fall on the road | Friday Night Football Roundup
It wasn’t a great week for Houston County’s football teams with only one win out of the six games, but there were still some positive takeaways.
It wasn’t a great week for Houston County’s football teams with only one win out of the six games, but there were still some positive takeaways.
Here’s a roundup of Friday night’s football:
Houston County
Houston County (2-1) fell in their marquee matchup against Central-Carrollton in an absolute barn-burner, 73-66 in overtime.
Last week, Lions quarterback J.R. Harris put up 614 yards through the air, a Central school record and the second-highest single-game total in GHSA history. They lived up to the offensive hype.
The Bears went tit for tat in their highest-scoring game since a 69-48 battle against Clarke Central in 2022.
Next up is Westlake at home.
Northside
Northside (2-2) made Westlake sweat, but ultimately they ran out of gas in a 42-14 loss.
Through three quarters the game was knotted at 14; The Eagles burned six minutes and put seven points on the board with the opening kickoff of the second half to tie the game. They also got a defensive stop on the Lions’ ensuing drive.
But the size, speed and athleticism of Westlake proved to be too much in the end as their offense marched down the field multiple times in the final eight minutes.
Northside is on a bye next week before they start their region schedule.
Perry
Giving up big plays on defense once again proved to be a thorn on Perry’s (1-3) side as they fell on the road to Northeast-Macon, 58-40.
The Panthers only trailed 13-7 after the first quarter, but the Raiders pulled away and never looked back after taking a 31-13 halftime lead.
Perry will host their region opener against Ola next week.
Veterans
Veterans (2-1) was the only Houston County team to come away with a win this week, and they did it on the road against Forsyth Central, 22-6.
The Warhawks led most of the game against their 7A opponent, and now they are off to the same start they had in 2025 with a winning record at 2-1.
Next up is the final game of their three-game road trip at Sumter County.
Warner Robins
Warner Robins’ (2-2) worst loss in program history was 64-0 to Cartersville in the first half last season. The Demons were down 64-0 at halftime to a Newton offense that is lighting the world on fire.
The 70-14 final is the second week in a row the Rams have put up 70 points, bringing their season total through four (4) games to 217 points.
Warner Robins will continue their road trip next week in their region opener against Union Grove.
Westfield
Westfield (3-2) remains defeated on the road after a tough 28-20 loss to Bulloch Academy in Statesboro.
Brock Johnson’s two-yard run in the third quarter cut the lead to 21-14, and the Hornets scored again late in the fourth, but the Gators were able to run out the clock for the victory.
Next is a road game at Stratford Academy.
