2 qualify for vacant Perry City Council seat
Qualifying came to a close Wednesday for the vacant seat of Perry City Councilman Joe Posey.
Posey, who still had three years left on his second term, stepped down, he said in a letter addressed to the public, due to “unforeseen circumstances.” He did say he was going to stay involved, however, “as the city moves forward.”
Qualifiers for the position, which covers northeastern Perry, were Mia Geiger and Robert Jones. Geiger, 37, is a licensed esthetician. Jones, 30, is a youth minister. Both have been living in Houston County about three decades.
One good thing (perhaps the only good thing at the time in the eyes of the Perry City Council) Mayor Jimmy Faircloth said at a special called meeting Aug. 4 to set qualifying in motion was the fact they still had time to place the election on the Nov. 4 ballot. Other races on that ballot include a U.S. Senate seat and Georgia Governor.
The district covers northeastern Perry.
